Why does the camera point down?

This lets the photos lay flat without the need to attach them (pushpins, magnets, scotch tape). This is the fastest way to position photos under the lens and quickly and efficiently reposition the photos quickly. Its also very fast to take the photo off and put the next one on.

If I bought the stand, what is the set up process?

Bolt the uprights to the base. Tighten the camera staging bar onto the 2 uprights. Put the whole unit onto a table top next to your editing equipment. Mount your camera onto the camera stage. Hook your camera into a digital mixer, or directly into a VCR (cuts only montages) and look at the output on the edit monitor. Mount a Plus 2 diopter lens onto the end of your camera lens (Optional accessory). Zoom all the way into the first picture and focus. If you cannot focus move the camera staging bar up or down. Now you can zoom out to frame your shot (its best to use an underscan monitor to see the actual edge of the video image. Hide all raged eges of any picture).

Why do I need a diopter lens, won't the macro setting work?

You can use your macro setting, but you'll have to move the camera every time you want to reframe a shot, and refocus every shot. If you have a small picture and need to get the lens super close to the picture, it will be very hard to light properly. With a diopter lens you leave the camera set at the same distance from every picture, and zoom to reframe the shot. Plus you don't need to refocus every time. The camera can now zoom into about a one inch rectangular area on the picture, and there is plenty of room to achieve proper lighting.

What size cameras will fit on the Video Photo stand?

Any camera or camcorder from 1 ounce to ten pounds. For big cameras over ten pounds ask for the double strength camera mount. It is an extra heavy duty mounting surface that will hold cameras up to 20 pounds rock steady.

How does the X/Y table work, and is it motorized?

It's manually operated, (no motors) you push it and it smoothly starts and stops. It is resistence dampened like a fluid effect tripod head.

How far does it move?

6.5 inches up and down, 8.5 inches side to side.

How big of a picture can I put on it?

18x24 will fit

Can I use it with my existing copy stand?

Yes, but it works best with our two pole Video Photo Stand

Why?

It has a large working area, very sturdy and the pictures are oriented right side up, instead of upside down like on a photographic style stand.

How small a picture can I shoot?

With the diopter set you can bring a 3/8" section full screen (Plus 4 diopter). We have had very successfull results scrolling at this magnification. (Shown on our demo tape)

How do I use it in my edit system?

If you have a non linear system, digitize the shots and you can do back to back moving dissolves on constantly moving images. If you have a digital mixer you can do A/X/A freeze dissolves, but it looks best to come to a complete stop on the end of each move. Hit freeze on the mixer and dissolve into the next moving shot.

Why do I need to move my photos?

It breathes life into boring stagnate photo montages. It lets you do your best work, and will bring it up to the next level of professionalism.
